Wildlife Day Tours from £30
(scroll down to 'Noticeboard' for details)
Welcome and thank you for visiting my website. I hope that I will be able to provide the wildlife experience that you are looking for. My name is Rob Young. I have always had a keen interest in nature. This developed over 40 years ago through spending time with my late father, birdwatching and learning to both appreciate and respect the countryside in East Yorkshire (and beyond). This interest inspired me to pursue a Degree in Environmental Science. I then qualified as a teacher and have taught in Hull and East Yorkshire. After working for the local police authority, I felt drawn back to my local countryside which has always provided me with such pleasure.
My aim is to provide you with a relaxed, informal, informative and enjoyable break. This would be tailored to your own needs in terms of what you require from this experience. I can provide a flexible itinerary which would be discussed with you and adapted to suit your particular requirements prior to booking. See 'Availability and Prices' section (drop-down from 'Accommodation' tab) for tour details.
Accommodation can be provided either on a bed and breakfast basis or through rented cottages in the Bempton area, or at coastal hotels, whichever you prefer. The lovely village of Bempton is 3 miles north of Bridlington, close to the North Yorkshire border. The village is within a mile of RSPB Bempton Cliffs, which were featured on Countryfile recently. The magnificent chalk cliffs are world renowned for their breeding Gannet, Puffin, Guillemot, Razorbill, Kittiwake, Fulmar and many other sea birds, making this the largest seabird colony in England. RSPB Bempton Cliffs is the best location in the country to see Gannet close-up and is the largest mainland gannetry in Britain. From Bempton, visits are provided to some of the Britain's most important birdwatching sites, within and beyond East Yorkshire, including Spurn Head and the Humber estuary sites.
Packages are designed to enable a hassle-free break. The following services are provided:
● accommodation (from 1 to 7 nights);
● travel (plus, if needed, pick-up from any East Yorkshire rail/bus station and drop off);
● meals as required (e.g. breakfast/lunch/dinner can be provided for short break cottage deals);
My tours offer the following:
● opportunities for all levels of birdwatcher, from novice to expert;
● advice on the best time and places to visit;
● guiding for individuals, couples or small groups to allow personal attention;
● no fixed itineraries – tours are designed to meet your interests;
● convenient packages (can include accommodation, travel, meals, guiding, etc.);
● guiding with local knowledge;
● value for money.
Those wanting to balance wildlife watching with other activities are very welcome. There are interesting circular walks from Bempton, taking in the scenic coastal paths. The Yorkshire Wolds and North York Moors are also just a few minutes' drive away, along with the historic towns of East Yorkshire, such as Bridlington, Beverley and Hornsea. In nearby North Yorkshire, within 20 minutes drive is the majestic resort of Scarborough; within 45 minutes drive is fascinating Whitby, with its links to Captain Cook and Dracula, whilst the enchanting Robin Hood's Bay offers tales of smugglers (and fine ales). Fossil hunters can also enjoy the rich fossiliferous coast in this area.
